I HATE the ‘chair reserving’ problem at all-inclusive resorts.
This is where people leave towels on chairs to hold them hours before they actually plan to use them, preventing other paying customers from using the chair. Sometimes the chair goes unused all day.
I’m an early riser. Last year (2012) in Playa Del Carmen, I stayed at an all-inclusive resort where all the beach chairs under palapas were ‘reserved’ by the time I got there at 6:30 am. Seems people were putting towels on the chairs before they turned in for the night.
This is a deplorable practice. I will never stay at this particular hotel again because of this problem.
I understand someone leaving a chair unoccupied for a short time, to get lunch, visit toilet etc. But the phenomenon I’ve described shouldn’t be allowed.
People should be informed that chairs will be marked by an attendant, the same way tires are marked in time restricted parking lots. A chair that remains unoccupied for more than a couple of hours will be made available for others to use.
My two cents. I’d love to hear other proposed solutions.
